Our Zines

Steve Jackson Games has been publishing magazines and periodicals since 1980! Here is information on (nearly) all of the zines we've released over the years. Our current zines are available physically and digitally on Warehouse 23, as are many other PDF back issues; check each zine's entry below for specific links.

Hexagram

Hexagram is an old-school RPG zine for The Fantasy Trip, available through Kickstarter projects (and Warehouse 23 after publication) in print and PDF. Hexagram features a variety of new content for The Fantasy Trip, such as new monsters, items, weapons, adventures, and more. Some issues feature behind-the-scenes articles from creator Steve Jackson and other Steve Jackson Games staff.

You can find print and PDF copies on Warehouse 23. Keep an eye on our Kickstarter page for upcoming issues.

Pyramid

Pyramid is a PDF magazine available through Warehouse 23. Devoted almost exclusively to RPGs, most articles provide both systemless support and new material for GURPS. (We're all fans of the gaming gamut, so we may also cover other systems from time to time.) For over 20 years, Pyramid has continued its proud tradition of bringing you the best in gaming. Each issue is tied to a specific theme; past topics have included post-apocalyptic action, psionics, swashbucklers, epic magic, weird science, steampunk, and many more.

The PDF era of Pyramid began in 2008, until the last monthly issue in December 2018: Pyramid #3/122: All Good Things. Those issues may be purchased for download individually or as a bundle. Since then, Pyramid has returned via occasional Kickstarter projects and special releases, including the Pyramid Dungeon Collection and the Dungeon Fantasy Companion 3 compilation.

Ogrezine

A collection of new Ogre articles and art, Ogrezine explores the game of Ogre in its many forms. Our inaugural Ogrezine featured 16 articles from fans, including scenarios, fiction, variants, and more, as well as artwork from talented artists. Its success led to Ogrezine Mark II, an additional collection of fan-submitted work further exploring the world of Ogre through another 18 articles. This zine is infrequent but still in active publication, so watch for new issues.

Ogrezine is available in PDF format on Warehouse 23 or in a collected edition via print-on-demand on Amazon.

Past Publications

We have previously published these other zines:

ADQ logo

Autoduel Quarterly – also known as ADQ – was the official support magazine for Car Wars. It included new rules, ideas, scenarios, background information, fiction, and more for that setting. The first issue of Autoduel Quarterly was released in Spring 1983 and ran for 10 years – 40 issues total – ending in January 1993.

The full run of ADQ is available electronically from Warehouse 23; each individual issue is for sale as a downloadable PDF – check this link to Warehouse 23 for the complete list.

Roleplayer logo

Roleplayer provided print support for GURPS. In fact, its first issue – dated February 1986 – was released before the first edition of GURPS was! Roleplayer started life as a four-page newsletter, growing to eight pages, then a 16-page magazine, and – finally – a 32-page magazine. It featured new rules, options, and ideas for GURPS players. The final issue was #30 and cover-dated January 1993; after that, support for GURPS folded into Pyramid (above).

Full PDF recreations of those issues are available electronically and may be purchased individually from Warehouse 23, or as a bundle. Free text-only archives are available from the Roleplayer page.

Space Gamer logo

Space Gamer began life as a paper magazine published by Metagaming Concepts in 1975. Steve Jackson Games took over publication with issue #27 (dated March/April 1980), and ultimately published 50 issues (plus six issues of spin-off magazine Fantasy Gamer). Issue #76, September/October 1985, became Steve Jackson Games' last issue before the rights to the name went elsewhere. Space Gamer covered all aspects of hobby gaming: RPGs, wargames, card and strategy games, and more. It also featured industry news and reviews. Although Space Gamer is still a great read in its own right, today it's also a fascinating look at an earlier era of hobby gaming.

All the issues of Space Gamer that were published by Steve Jackson Games are available digitally at Warehouse 23, including a bundle of all 50 issues.

Fantasy Gamer logo

Fantasy Gamer began in 1983, as a fantasy-themed counterpart to Space Gamer's sci-fi focus. Fantasy Gamer lasted for six bimonthly issues, from August/September 1983 to June/July 1984. Fantasy-related content folded back into Space Gamer after then. Fantasy Gamer covered all aspects of fantasy-themed hobby gaming: RPGs, wargames, card and strategy games, and more. It also featured industry news and reviews. Although Fantasy Gamer is still a great read in its own right, today it's also a fascinating look at an earlier era of hobby gaming.

All the issues of Fantasy Gamer that were published by Steve Jackson Games are available digitally at Warehouse 23.

First published in 1979 by GDW, Inc., the Journal of the Travellers' Aid Society was the official online magazine of Traveller. Its first Internet-only issue was in February of 2000. During its run it had over 500 HTML installments and one compilation (GURPS Traveller: The Best of JTAS Volume 1). The last HTML issue of JTAS published by Steve Jackson Games was in December 2015.

Fire & Movement logo

Fire & Movement CoverFire & Movement

This classic zine began publication in 1975 and joined the Steve Jackson Games library from 1982 through 1985. F&M is a snapshot of the wargame landscape of the 80s, highlighting the landscape of the military tabletop industry and the many games in the growing market at the time.

Back issues are currently unavailable. We're working on it.
