Daily Illuminator Archive for June 2019
June 1, 2019:
Later this month, on June 23, we will close preorders for the reprint of the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game
and the new Dungeon Fantasy Monsters 2
book. These two GURPS
titles, both made possible thanks to the support of over 1,000 backers on Kickstarter, are at the factory and proceeding on schedule; we are on track to ship Kickstarter rewards later this year . . .
June 2, 2019:
As The Fantasy Trip Legacy Edition
delights would-be dungeon delvers and the Decks of Destiny
has grown beyond all original expectations, we're happy to note that there's still more out there for The Fantasy Trip
gamers. For those who missed the successful Kickstarter for The Fantasy Trip Adventures
earlier this year – or those who just prefer to pick and choose their gaming goodies – we're happy to announce two new Fantasy Trip
adventures now available to buy for PDF download on Warehouse 23: Fire in the Temple
and The Clockwork Tower
. . .

Today is your last chance to join the Decks of Destiny
campaign on Kickstarter and be a part of the creation of this new expansion for The Fantasy Trip
. Project supporters have unlocked over three dozen stretch goals, loading the box with cards, journals, megahex tiles, and – if you select the I Want All The Newness
reward level – much more! . . .
June 4, 2019:
Munchkin Pathfinder Deluxe has been unavailable for many, many months – so, late last year, we discussed the idea of reprinting the box with our friends at Paizo. As part of the reprint, Andrew and Lar worked together to create 12 new Munchkin Pathfinder
cards, based on the iconic heroes from the recent Pathfinder Playtest
manuscript, so that we could pack a little extra into the Deluxe
reprint . . . and now the project is on the water and headed to our primary warehouse!
Munchkin Pathfinder Deluxe
is scheduled for release in stores this month . . .
June 5, 2019:
We recently checked our numbers and realized that not only have we reached the milestone of 10 million Munchkin
games and accessories sold worldwide, we've blown right past it. As of June 1, we – and our publishing partners such as USAopoly, IDW, and SlugFest Games, as well as all of our overseas translators – have printed a little more than 10.5 million Munchkin
-branded games, accessories, and books . . .

Once again, strange things are afoot at the Circle K . . .
Believe it or not, this year is the 30th anniversary of the film Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
(it premiered in 1989). And after years of "maybe they will, maybe they won't," a third movie is confirmed and in production: Bill and Ted Face the Music . . .
June 8, 2019:
It hasn't even been a year since our Kickstarter campaign for The Fantasy Trip Legacy Edition
was launched, and already we've seen:

, a hardcover collection of five new adventures that is now in final production at the factory.

Last year's Kickstarter campaign to create metal Illuminati Coins
led to the creation of an amazing set of coins . . . which you can find today at Warehouse 23! These metal coins are usable as tokens for almost any game, or for whatever other secret needs you may have that the world is not yet aware of . . .
June 12, 2019:
Long out-of-print, we're pleased to report that the reprint of Robin's Laws of Good Game Mastering
is in the final stages of manufacturing; it's expected to release to stores late this summer. This guide for GMs was last printed over 15 years ago, but with the recent rise in roleplaying games, we thought it the perfect time to reprint the book for all of you who missed buying a copy when it was new . . .
June 13, 2019:
If you already have your copy of the Legacy Edition
game, then you own a softcover copy of In the Labyrinth
, the roleplaying game rules for The Fantasy Trip
. That Legacy Edition
box is loaded with everything you need to play The Fantasy Trip
, so today's release is for those of you who have either not yet grabbed the Legacy Edition
or (not surprisingly) want a second copy of the core rulebook at your game table . . .

June 16, 2019:
Earlier this year, we ran a Kickstarter campaign to create new mini-expansions for Munchkin Cthulhu
, Munchkin Zombies
, and Star Munchkin
. The project was successful, unlocking all stretch goals and leading to the creation of three new 30-card expansions (as well as a promo-card pack), and now is your chance to preorder these new mini-expansions!
The BackerKit preorder page is your gateway to these expansions – as well as several other Munchkin
games, accessories, and expansions – and the project is on track to ship everything later this year . . .
June 17, 2019:
We mentioned a couple of days ago that lots of the staff was at Origins (more on that to come!) and that we were having a Warehouse 23 sale on PDFs while we were out of the office. The response was amazing . . .
June 18, 2019:
Our latest game, Deadly Doodles
, isn't set to reach store shelves until August, but that didn't stop the team from bringing advance copies for demos and sale at the Origins show last week. The game – just as it has at every show we've demonstrated it at this year – went over well with players; it was fantastic to see so many folks having a blast exploring the dungeon . . .
June 19, 2019:
The newest printed GURPS
book, Dungeon Fantasy Monsters 2
, is now listed for preorder at BackerKit and we're down to the final days before preorders close. The first week of August, the finished book – along with the reprint of the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game

Last week at the Origins show, we loaded the display case with several new and upcoming releases, including an entire shelf of dice and dice accessories. The case had announced releases – prototypes of new things that we're exploring – and was a hit with everyone who stopped by and spent a little time looking through the dozens of different items . . .
June 21, 2019:
I just got back from this show last night and I'm really pleased with how it went. I've only been to Origins once before, in 2014, and this show feels so much bigger than I remember that one being . . .
June 22, 2019:
Did you know that Atlas Games once published adventures for R. Talsorian's Cyberpunk 2020

Bloomberg has published a piece about current trends in boardgaming, and we're mentioned:
"In America, one venerable game maker is Steve Jackson Games of Austin, Texas. Its most popular title is Munchkin

If you don't spend a lot of time on BoardGameGeek.com, you're missing out on a thriving community of game players and designers, with thousands of pages dedicated to all manner of tabletop games. Sometimes, you stumble over gems like this: a review of chess . . .

We're happy to announce that the first expansion to Munchkin Warhammer 40,000
, Faith and Firepower
, is officially in stores! After several months of hard work by Andrew, John, the Austin team, and Games Workshop's dedicated crew, not to mention all the effort that the factory put into preparing the printed tuckboxes and cards, it is incredibly rewarding to see the expansion reach store shelves and, more importantly, your hands! . . .
June 27, 2019:
It's been a slow month for crowdfunding here at Steve Jackson Games, relative to earlier months this year. We've spent a lot of June handling existing projects and making sure that everything is moving forward . . .
June 28, 2019:
We have several new dice coming out this year (discussed in this earlier post) and, for those who want to carry all those dice, we also have a series of new dice bags scheduled for release starting in September. First up are the Dice Bag: Skeletons
and Dice Bag: Lich
6" × 9" drawstring bags (more info here) . . .
June 29, 2019:
When working, I often have music in the background (or headphones) – usually instrumentals so that I don't accidentally start singing along in the office or in public. The number of songs loaded on my phone is a little on the ridiculous side (256 GB FTW!), especially since I go in cycles and will choose one or two bands to play on near-constant repeat for weeks at a time . . .
June 30, 2019:
With the non-stop flood of new games overwhelming store shelves and game tables these days, it is always nice when someone looks back on the games from yesteryear. And that is exactly what we get with this review of Zombie Dice
by @GeekMid that was posted at Mid-Life Gamer Geek last weekend . . .
